Sitku, Krisztina: The heritage of the Life Reform Movements in today’s Camphill Movement

The rich and colourful heritage of the late-19th century Life Reform Movement (LRM) survives in the present-day communities of the international Camphill Movement. Joining such a life-sharing community involves the newcomer’s full immersion into its unique way of life and educational system which are inspired by the teachings and preserve the practice of several branches of LRM. Especially one of its peripheral religious trends (Krabbe, 2018), the theosophic-esoteric Christian teaching of anthroposophy and Waldorf-pedagogy (Németh & Ehrenhard, 2018) have had a determining influence on the camphill system. Rudolph Steiner’s teachings, together with Karl König’s curative education (McKanan, 2017) aim at the holistic development of mentally disabled children and adults in…

Rideg, Béla: Psychoanalytic analysis of Magda Szabó’s novel Pilate in a literature lesson

In my paper, I attempt to demonstrate the applicability of certain theories of psychoanalysis in the teaching of literature in high school. The aim of the study is to show how teaching literature with a psychoanalytic approach can become psychologically instructive for students. The first part of my article presents the psychoanalytic approaches of Magda Szabó’s novel Pilate from a theoretical point of view. The second part of my writing provides a possible lesson plan on the given topic.

Mészáros, Virág: Variables in the background of dropout

The main purpose of the research is to raise an education focused value added model (VAM) regarding STEM higher education. This paper presents some results of my relevant sub-research addressing dropout students, which is to seek elements of VAM by analyzing patterns in the cases of students experiencing termination of their legal relationship. Furthermore, our aim is to scan the phenomenon of dropout as loss, to make further categories and to reveal backstage variables, in order to better understand the reasons and factors behind dropout, hereby approaching elements of VAM and identifying preventative actions. In the questionnaire, completed by dropout students, the reasons of study difficulties were conceptualized and operationalized…

Pogány, Dániel: Motivation in virtual worlds

The analysis of the motivation system of gamification from a ludological point of view Video game developers often find themselves faced with the same questions as psychologists working in the field of motivation research. For example, such a question could be, how a given behavior energizes and how that energization is maintained from then on. Translating this into the world of games, why someone plays games and how they can be convinced not to stop playing. Developers have been searching for answers to these questions since the 1960’s, continuously adding new theories and mechanics into their games. For this reason, it was logical that motivational research would close in on…

Kovács, Zsófia – Prisztóka, Gyöngyvér: Emergence and Development of Swimming education – Historical overview

Throughout history, there has been a huge significance in the mastery of swimming movements in the development of swimming education. While first off, this was a method of obtaining food, now it has a recreational and safeguarding purpose alongside its tremendous health benefits. The multi-faceted nature of swimming is the reason why after many decades of trying swimming finally appears in public educational systems, bringing forth opportunities so every child can take part in this sport. Changes in time and environment influence the educational needs and implications of swimming movements to a great degree. To acquire a historical review, we will analyze the occurrence of swimming, its significance, functions and…

Kopecskó-Hodosi, Zsófia: Efficiency of the pedagogue in Digital Education – results of an empirical study

In the spring of last year, the transition to online education was unexpected for Hungarian public education. Following the announcement of distance learning due to the epidemic, teachers had a weekend to consider what new platform they would continue to work on. Teacher-efficiency surveys revealed that respondents felt that digital education meant a higher burden and a less than average sense of efficiency (Kóródi, Jagodich, Szabó, 2020). In addition to research on the Bourdieu theory of social capital (Pusztai, 2009), several studies prove that the socioeconomic status of the family and parental involvement have a major influence on pupils’ effectiveness in school. (Manstead, 2018, Fidinist, 2016, Kraus and Stephens, 2012,…

Fodor, Bálint: The alternative model of productive learning and its representation in Conkers School

For decades, one of the main recurring elements of criticism targeted at Hungarian public education has been the inability to adequately prepare students to enter the world of work. While most educational systems of the 20th century attempted to mirror the structure of societies, and to model expected social behaviours, the problem has still prevailed: theoretical knowledge still outweighs knowledge about how to live a productive personal life. „Finally, you are going to step out into Life” – a common expression that can usually be heard at Hungarian proms. What an empty statement, indeed! What does Life mean? What does this Life bring the young, school leaving adult – may…

Dezső, Renáta Anna: Interpretations of our Gardnerian Intelligences

Almost four decades have passed since Howard Gardner first published his theory of multiple intelligences (1983) in its original form. Since then the theory has been modified several times, so its nature is rather dynamic. Concerning its popularity in the circles of Hungarian speaking professional communities, within the fields of educational sciences, we may conclude that although the theory has been widely used in past decades, its theoretical description has not been detailed or analysed in studies, other than through short descriptions or references. The present contribution aims at introducing the eight intelligences of the theory in their current form, excluding its scientific historical roots (Dezső, 2020), or the critiques…

Sitku Krisztina: Az életreform mozgalmak továbbélése a Camphill Movement mai közösségeiben

A 19. század végén megjelenő életreform mozgalmak színes és gazdag humanisztikus öröksége sajátos módon él tovább a Camphill Movement (Camphill Mozgalom) mai közösségeiben. Ezeket, más hatásokkal együtt, a Karl König-i gyógyító nevelés (curative education) szociálterápiás gyógypedagógiai módszere…

Rideg Béla: Szabó Magda Pilátus című regényének pszichoanalitikus szemléletű irodalomórai feldolgozási lehetősége

Jelen írásom célja, hogy Szabó Magda Pilátus (1963) című regényének pszichoanalitikus szemléletű középiskolai tanítási lehetőségét bemutassa. Munkám elméleti hátterében a konstruktív pedagógia, az élményközpontú irodalomtanítás és a Delphi-módszer szorosan összekapcsolódó elgondolásai állnak. E három (irodalomtanítási) módszer közös sajátossága, hogy a tanulói olvasmányélményre, olvasói tapasztalatokra alapozva, ezekből kiindulva kreatív, interaktív-kooperatív tanórai műelemzésre, feldolgozására törekszik.
